Update: The Zombie Doom Undead Link Blog

The #ZombieDoom link blog: im [dot] ZOMBIE [dot] imHey everyone - I know it's been a while since last we updated.  Here's what's new with the Zombie Doom team:

First: As #ZombieDoom was, is, and shall remain a FUN endeavour we're taking our sweet-ass time.  We're all busy as hell and have lives, jobs, families, and hobbies.  However, we've make some great progress in the past few months.  We've make a hand-shake deal with an actual, real-life author.  More on this down the line, but in short the story is an actual story and coming together quickly!  We've met with both Gowalla and Foursquare about assisting with app development.  We've also started the application UX and the first stages of development.

Second: In the mean time, we've started a Zombie Doom link blog on Tumblr called im [dot] ZOMBIE [dot] im. Our link blog is a collaborative effort with the intent of having fun while building a community around Zombie culture.  If you'd like to contribute to the Zombie link blog simply click here.  If you don't have or want a Tumblr and simply want to follow what we're doing fear not!  Video, pictures, audio and links will be aggregated on this site at /zombie-links.   The Tumblr, however, has been a tun of fun to build and has already started trending in the appropriate 'Weird' category.   We' love your recommendation!

Thanks again for following #ZombieDoom.  If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact us.  You can also follow #ZombieDoom on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr.

Thanks!

Zombie Doom Survivors - The Microblog

What Is Zombie Doom?  Zombie Doom is a closed-circuit, real-time, geo-local social game organized and executed by survivors of the inevitable zombie apocalypse.
-- -- --
The survivors of the inevitable zombie apocalypse have organized!   ...and they're all social media douchebags! Humanity is royally fucked!
Unless, somehow, the survivors are able to network.  Socially...
So:  The Engineers of Zombie Doom have established a small microblog called Zombie Doom Survivors.   Our systems are far from functioning fully:  the game engine works, but needs tweaking, and the story is very cool (think: 'Choose Your Own Adventure' + Twitter + Zombies) but also needs a lot of modification.
We're working some some very cool tech companies to help build our platform - Squarespace, ShoutEm, and Gowalla have been invaluable.
The Zombie Doom Team (we're calling ourselves 5D20 - more on that later) has a lot of work to do before were ready to let a large group of people survive on our system.
However: we've reached a point where we are comfortable allowing a small number of people play-test a few features.  If you're interested in play-testing, swing by survivors.zombiedoom.com and register.  You should be approved within a few days.
As always, if you have any questions feel free to contact the Engineers.  More information as it becomes available.
Thanks.

The Undead Are Social - A Quick Update

Hey there - it's been a while since last we updated the undead.  Fear not: our radio silence has been full of apocalypse-planning.  Here's what we're working on:

  • Building a prototype for play-testing.  We'd like to build our own set of applications that tie in to our game platform.  For now, however, we're hacking together a few off-the-shelf apps to give our team something to work with.
  • Building/compiling/modifying/hacking a story.  We recently had a few meetings with literary agents - very cool stuff TK on this.
  • Building a full, modular social game platform.  See, thing is #ZombieDoom is about more than just a zombie game.  Mum's the word for now, but suffice to say the #ZombieDoom team has grand ambitions.

Our team has a slew of other projects, but these are our main goals.  We'd like to have something ready for testing - even if it's ugly and slow (much like a zombie) but the first week of June.  The #ZombieDoom RSS feedTwitter account @zombie_doom, and Facebook Page will keep you abreast of our progress.

Thanks!

Crickets in the Night

Greetings, Fellow Survivors! We have some important information to share with those of you who may be curious what is going on in the world of Zombie Doom.

Why So Silent?

You may have noticed that things have been pretty quiet over here on the Zombie Doom blog. You may even have become alarmed that the silence means that we have stopped working on the project. Nothing could be further than the truth. In fact, we've been working harder than ever to bring you the zombie apocalypse that you deserve.

When Zombie Doom was originally conceived, we had envisioned a collaborative storytelling game using social networks for the transmission of the data. The goal was to make a game that was easy to play, told a good story, and was just plain fun. However, as we dug in and began building your inevitable doom, we realized that we could do better than that. Not only could we serve you a fun game, we could actually bring Awesome to the table.

What Does This Mean For You?

Zombie Doom is going to take much longer than we originally intended. Making something awesome is hard work, and involves a lot of careful planning, development and testing. In fact, at some point we will probably ask for volunteers to help us playtest. If you are interested in being a tester, please fill out this application form, and make sure to let us know that you are willing to be a tester during the alpha and beta versions of your inevitable doom. A timeline for testing has yet to be decided, but submitting your application (as well as following the posts on the blog) will be the best way for you to stay informed regarding what we are doing.

This also means that the quiet over here on the site is likely to continue for a while. We will make every effort to keep you guys updated with our progress, but when push comes to shove, we want to make sure that we are spending our time building something awesome instead of just talking about something awesome. In the coming months, we hope to share with you some of the great things we are building that will make the destruction of all you hold dear so much fun to play. We are very excited, and look forward to sharing our vision with all of you.

Thanks for you interest in Zombie Doom. We are building the apocalypse.

Zombie Doom: The Game and Story

Zombie Doom is a close-circuit, real-time role playing game. Zombie Doom amalgamates a concise narrative story with a large group of players using the real-time, geo-aware features of Twitter and the social web.

Zombie Doom is created and administrated by a group of Engineers.

The Engineers will use this space to post updates about the game and story, the website and applications that power the game and story, and other information relevant to players and the public.

Thanks for swinging by.
